God Jul My Friend

I.e. ‘Merry Christmas’ as we are on our way to Denmark!

Recap of our last few days.

We did get some flurries!

Temps were upper 20s/ low 30s

We made it to Sweden.  After fighting with the Oslo airport for lost luggage, that we finally obtained.  We watched the frosted and snow covered countryside along the way through the train windows.  3.5 hour trip sitting with friends/family from Oslo to Gothenburg.

We chose Gothenburg. Because it was suggested as a better less ‘city’ option than Stockholm.  So we thought this was a sweet choice with a great Christmas market.

Liseberg

The amusement park of Liseberg was right across from our hotel. In the winter it becomes a Christmas Market and decorated up.  A huge place to ride rides, eat meals, shop, play games.  We bought tickets in advance and printed them at the kiosk prior to walking in. We immediately found one part of the Christmas market and bought the Glutvein and looked around.  There was an ice skating rink, an entire kiddie ride area, escalators up to the top of the mountain where there was a mini- museum, including a section showing off Disney type rides that have been there in the past.  Ian and Daniel went to ride the Ferris wheel.  the rest of us rode the Kiddie train ride at $5 per person.  Shopped at more Christmas market, ate at the Italian restaurant in the park, and played a game or 2.  This park was huge.

That night our gift exchange was Food/Candy.  So there were a lot of market candy purchases.  I got a bag of candy that was purchased after I was kicked out of the candy store to go on a toalette run!

We all slept so good that night.

Christmas Eve we ate at Seasons, which is one of the restaurants providing breakfast in our hotel.  It was also huge.  Many options for food and beverages.  There was a Santa Clause stationed in the hotel lobby.

After some low key relaxing morning hours, we set out at 11am and walked into the ‘old’ downtown.  This is around a 1 mile walk.  Approximately Being Christmas Eve, many places were closed; however we found an open department store, mall, and pub.  So we were able to see, walk, and eat while out.  We saw the Big Red Heart, the Gothenburg Cathedral, the outside of the gardens, some statutes, and the canal.

We went back to the room and then some of us went back out and found the Clarion Hotel Post, the Palm house in the Garden Society, the harbour, the Opera House, and a long trek back to the hotel by 6pm.

Not all restaurants ended up being open due to staffing, or a private party, so we ate food at the bar, which was actually amazing.  BBQ sandwich and chips or Chicken Caesar Salad.

We exchanged gifts for hat day, then returned to our rooms to sleep.

Up on Christmas morning to eat, pack, shower, and hit the train for another 3.5 hour trip to Copenhagen.
